The private kindergarten and elementary school Soukromá mateřská škola a základní škola s.r.o. in Brno - Jundrov has as its aim the creation of a complex education system focusing on the personality reinforcement of each pupil and on the development of their individuality, creativity and self-reliance. The specific character of this school is demonstrated, besides other things, by the integration of pre-school and school education institutions enabling a fluent transfer of pupils from the former to the latter. These close links are ensured by the same education environment, the same teaching methods and the same team of teachers who look after pupils for the whole time of their attendance to this school, i.e. from the age of 5(6) to 10(11). The low number of pupils in the class enables teachers to give really individual attention to each pupil.

The daily school routine is adapted to correspond to the demanding nature and character of the curriculum and to the psychic needs of pupils. Individual subjects are not taught in separate periods of time (lessons) and therefore the existing barriers between subjects are removed. Another means enabling us to achieve the above-mentioned objective consists in the system in which the educational process employs pupil’s creative activities to the maximum extent, harmonizes mental and physical activities and leads to the complex development of the pupil’s personality substituting the passive reception of information with the process of exploration and engagement. Drama method serves as the principal method of pedagogical work in this system. This method can be used in any teaching subject. In our opinion, drama is more an approach to education rather than a subject. It gives children a great opportunity to develop their creativity and it also provides invaluable social and ethical experience. Moreover, children learn when playing and “rehearsing” with no serious consequences, with the possibility to replay the situation at any time and correct the wrong solution. Naturally, children get life experience while doing any activities at school and outside the school. However, drama is the only one that enables to control the process (e.g. by teacher’s active participation in a specific role in the play) and induce situations purposely. The main task of the drama as a teaching method is to make all pupils active in the educational process, to make them interested in the taught issue, to enable them to self-express, to let them live through the situation completely and in this way to let them learn the curriculum spontaneously.

Another new thing the drama as a teaching method brings about is a team work. The educational process is not conducted by a single teacher, but by a whole team. The children in a group of the kindergarten are looked after not only by a pre-school teacher but also by an elementary school teacher who in the ideal case proceeds with children to the first grade and is put in charge of them until they finish this school. Besides these two teachers, specialists in foreign languages, music, arts and literature/drama work with children. All-day educational process includes both the compulsory education and the “after-school program” that is immediately linked to the morning lessons and stresses artistic activities and physical education. The lessons start at 8:30 a.m. and end at 2:15 p.m. This time schedule includes lunch break and morning snack break. Other breaks are determined by the teacher according to pupils’ individual psychic needs. For their lessons and relaxation, pupils can use all the premises of the school including the garden and shaded terraces.

A separate desk for each pupil, classrooms equipped with state-of-the-art audio systems, special classrooms for music and drama lessons and a PC classroom contribute to obtaining optimum results of the educational process. Another important element of our conception consists in the close cooperation between the school and parents. In the sessions held on a regular basis, parents can see demonstrations of specific pedagogical work and thus compare achieved results. Parents can also see pupils’ literary and artistic work at these meetings. School organizes two-week outdoor school stays for its pupils as a part of the educational process. Winter health program focuses on winter sports, especially on down-hill skiing, summer program specializes in bike-riding.

The education in Soukromá mateřská škola a základní škola s.r.o. is governed by the educational program Obecná škola č.j. 12035/97-20. Parents contribute to the costs of schooling by paying the school fee.
